Canva – Learning the Toolbox

From the Coco Creative Internship Program

Every company has their own ‘tools and tricks’.

One of the first things that you have to do as an intern is to familiarize yourself with the various platforms and applications used by the company you work for.

One of the first ‘tools’ in the Coco Creative toolbox I was exposed to was Canva. I instantly fell in love with this amazing and easy to use online platform. Canva is an all-in-one graphic design application that allows you to produce a variety of creative items.

To get started, you need to sign up and log in. To begin, you need to select the size or type of canvas you are looking for. You can do this by either entering in exact canvas measurements in pixels or you can select a pre-set layout from the list. What is really exciting and helpful about Canva is that once you have chosen this, you can either choose to work from a blank canvas or you can select a pre-set design specifically for the layout you have chosen.

This is can be very useful when you are struggling to be creative or if you need to produce a design/graphic in a short amount of time. In addition to the pre-set layouts and themes, Canva also provide you with a variety of images, assets and icons that you can drag and drop into your design. There are some pretty cool images to choose from, and many you can manipulate and change their colours to suit your design or corporate colours. You can also upload your own images into Canva, to make your graphic truly unique.

I have personally used Canva to make a variety of designs for clients – such as posters, business cards, email signatures, social media graphics, logos and email headers. Some of the other useful graphic designs and templates offered by Canva include CVs, cards, invitations and photo collages.

Canva is a great tool to have in any marketing “toolbox”. This application makes it fun and easy to get creative and produce quality designs. You name it – Canva can probably do it!
